Political Demonstrations

The U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa alerts American citizens residing in and traveling to Honduras that political demonstrations related to the proposed national poll that may be held on Sunday, June 28 are expected to continue in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and other parts of Honduras today and throughout the weekend. The Embassy has no information related to specific planned demonstrations and thus far, all demonstrations have been non-violent.
The Embassy again strongly recommends that U.S. citizens avoid large gatherings and do not try to pass roadblocks if they encounter them. U.S. citizens should monitor the situation via media sources, including TV and radio and should ensure that they have sufficient food, water and fuel.
The Embassy has recommended that its employees based in Tegucigalpa restrict their travel outside of the city from 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27 to 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 29. In addition, the Embassy has recommended that its employees limit their travel within Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula during this period.
At this time, all airports and border crossings in Honduras remain open to regular traffic.
The U.S. Embassy remains open for routine and emergency services during regular hours.

Americans living or traveling in Honduras are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website, and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Honduras. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
