Statement by U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis at the Ceremony of Investiture of the Verification Commission for Implementation of the Guaymuras Accord
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
November 3, 2009

I would like to congratulate the Honduran people for reaching an historic agreement last week.

The negotiators from both sides, and their leaders, deserve credit for putting their country first and looking forward.

The United States is proud to have worked with the OAS to support our Honduran friends as they reached the Guaymuras Accord -- and I am pleased to participate in this verification commission to help ensure that the agreement is implemented fully and on time.

As an important early step, the formation of the Government of National Unity and Reconciliation by November 5 is crucial.

The United States views its participation in this Commission as a vital priority and I look forward to working with you.
