U.S. Embassy to Resume Visa Operations
October 30, 2009

TEGUCIGALPA, M.D.C. - In support of the recent agreement reached in the political crisis in Honduras, I have instructed our consular section to re-open its Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) Section starting November 2, 2009.  It is my and my Embassy’s intention to restore our service to the excellent levels at which it stood prior to our closing.  Legitimate travel between our two countries is one of the forces that bonds together the U.S. and Honduras.

Initial interviews will go to emergency cases and those applicants who had confirmed scheduled interviews when the NIV section closed August 26, 2009.  The Embassy’s Call Center will contact those whose appointments were cancelled to schedule new interviews.  First time applicants, applicants who have had visas before, and all other classes of visas for those who did not previously have an interview scheduled in the Consular Section may contact the call center immediately but, as we are giving priority to those listed above, probably will not receive appointments until after November 16, 2009.

All visa interview scheduling will be handled by the Call Center.  This includes all emergency appointments.  Please do not contact the Embassy to schedule a visa interview.  To schedule an interview, applicants must go to any branch of Banco Atlantida to purchase a PIN number.  More details on this process are available here.  Due to an expected higher volume of calls, please be aware that some calls may not be connected at the time of the call.  The Call Center will be open for extended hours to handle the higher call volume.  We ask for your patience during this process.

To qualify for an emergency visa, an applicant must have an immediate medical or business need to travel to the United States.  This may include students with immediate school start dates or families going to attend a funeral.

For more information on what is required for a visa interview, location of the U.S. Embassy, classes of visas, or any other information involving Non-Immigrant Visas, please consult our website.
