U.S. Ambassador Hugo Llorens’ Statement to Press on Killing of Journalists

April 21, 2010

U.S. Ambassador to Honduras Hugo Llorens made the following statement to reporters on April 21 about the recent killing of journalists in Honduras, “We hope that these cases are fully investigated and that those responsible are found and brought to justice.  Freedom of the press is a fundamental right that allows you, as journalists, not to be afraid to do your work to inform all the people of the news and report events in the country.”

These comments follow the earlier statement of concern about these killings issued by the Embassy on March 2 as well as the statement made on March 17 by Deputy U.S. Permanent Representative W. Lewis Amselem at the Organization of American States Permanent Council.
