Subject:	Warden Message – Appointment for Consular Report of Birth Abroad Applications

Beginning October 16, 2007, an appointment will be required for those American citizens applying at the Consular Section in Tegucigalpa for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) for their children with claims to U.S. citizenship. The new process will follow the steps listed below: • Anyone may pick up the packet of information and forms at the Consular Section any weekday morning or download the forms: http://honduras.usembassy.gov/english/mission/sections/con_07.htm • An appointment will be required to submit the application. To schedule an appointment you must contact the American Citizen Services Unit by e-mail usahonduras@state.gov, by fax 238-4357 or by phone (504) 236-9320 ext. 4400, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Interviews will be conducted Monday through Thursday in the afternoon only. • On the day and time of the appointment, both parents and the child must come in to the Embassy with completed forms for the interview with the Consular Officer. The Embassy believes that allocating specific times for CRBA interviews will allow us to provide faster and more efficient service to the public. No appointment is needed to apply at the Consular Agency in San Pedro Sula: • Applications may be submitted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. • All applications accepted in San Pedro Sula are adjudicated at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa and, if approved, they will be returned by Cargo Expreso in approximately four weeks. • The Consular Officer may require a personal interview at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa. Up-to-date information on safety and security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll-line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). Americans living or traveling in Honduras are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov, and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Honduras. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
