| The
U.S. Embassy alerts American citizens residing in and traveling to Roatan
that demonstrations have been taking place at the pier and courthouse and
may spread to other locations. Approximately 200 individuals reportedly
blocked access to the Roatan pier and to the court house protesting an incident
where three local youngsters lost their lives and several others were injured.
The U.S. Embassy alerts American citizens residing in and traveling to Roatan
to take precautions.
The Embassy strongly recommends U.S. citizens not try to pass road blockages, as there have been incidents of violence in the past. U.S. citizens should avoid travel in affected areas. U.S. citizens should monitor demonstrations via media sources, including TV and radio. For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Travel Warnings and Public Announcements, including the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, can be found.
