SECURITY
COMPANIES IN HONDURAS
The
following are some of the larger, more well known security companies
operating in Tegucigalpa and other parts of Honduras. They provide
several types of service including facility protection, roving patrols,
alarm response and commercial vehicle armed escort.
WARNING
There
are two Honduran government requirements for a security company
to operate legally in Honduras. All businesses are required to register
with the Direccion Ejecutiva de Ingresos (DEI) – the Honduran
equivalent of the IRS. Registered companies are assigned a Registro
Tributario Nacional (RTN) number that is usually a seven digit alpha
numeric code. This RTN number is required to be listed on all letterhead
stationary and billing statements. General managers of companies
are also required to register with the DEI and have RTN tax numbers.
This regulation applies to all companies doing business in country
including not for profit organizations and those excluded from corporate
taxes for various reasons.
Additionally,
security companies are required to be registered with and licensed
by the security ministry. This includes listing and testing of weapons,
police checks on guards and compliance with other regulations.
The
current operations license is entitled "Licencia Para Servicios
de Seguridad Privada". It must bear the signature of the Minister
of Security and countersigned by the Secretary General of the Ministry
of Security. end insert
A business
that does not have an RTN is not a legal business and should be
avoided. Never use a security company that does not have both an
RTN and a license to operate from the security ministry. The DEI
will generally not provide private individuals with RTN numbers
but it is possible to request the prospective business to provide
a “constancia” issued to that business and the general
manager by the DEI that shows both are legally registered. If corporate
documents and billing statements do not list an RTN be suspicious
