G. Williard James G. Williard started his duties as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on August 12, 2005. James G. Williard most recently served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay. Mr. Williard joined the Department of State in 1975, following his studies in Political Science at Principia College, the University of Illinois, and George Washington University. Prior to his Foreign Service career, Mr. Williard worked in several internships on Capitol Hill, with The Christian Science Monitor, and at the Illinois State Legislature. |

His State Department assignments have included postings in Zaire, Egypt, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Mexico, India, Peru, and Uruguay. Before his assignment in Uruguay, Mr. Williard was Counselor for Narcotics Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Lima. He also worked in Refugee Affairs for six years, both in the Philippines and as Deputy Director for Refugee Admissions in Washington. As an Administrative Officer in the Foreign Service, Mr. Williard has frequently been selected to serve as an advance officer for overseas presidential visits. He participated in presidential trips to Puerto Rico, Honduras, Miami, India, Brazil, and Peru. Mr. Williard has received three Superior Honor Awards and three Meritorious Honor Awards. Mr. Williard is married and has one son, Tommy.
