Allowed Stay with Student Visa
When you enter the United States with your student visa, you will normally be allowed to stay for the duration of your student status. The immigration officer generally marks your I-94 with the letters “D/S” (duration of status). This means that you may remain in the United States as long as you are a full time student, even if your F-1 or M-1 visa expires while you are in the U.S.
If you leave the United States and your visa has expired, you will have to apply for the renewal of your student visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate, and of course, present the required documents.
